Modeling motivation using goal competition in mental fatigue studies

چکیده

Motivation can counteract the effects of mental fatigue. However, underlying mechanism by which motivation affects performance in mentally fatiguing tasks is obscure. In this paper, we propose goal competition as a paradigm to understand role and built three models fatigue studies demonstrate cognitive architecture named PRIMs. Each these explored impact reward on performance. Overall, decreased nonreward conditions but remained stable conditions. The comparisons between our empirical data showed that were able capture human We managed model changes levels adjusting value main task goals, controls with distractions. all modeled, best fits obtained linear decrease activation, suggesting general pattern. discuss possible mechanisms for activation decrease, potential motivation.

Mental fatigue, motivation and action monitoring.

In this study we examined whether the effects of mental fatigue on behaviour are due to reduced action monitoring as indexed by the error related negativity (Ne/ERN), N2 and contingent negative variation (CNV) event-related potential (ERP) components. Therefore, we had subjects perform a task, which required a high degree of action monitoring, continuously for 2h. In addition we tried to relate...

Self-criticism, Goal Motivation, and Goal Progress

The current research examined the relations among self-criticism, autonomous versus controlled motivations, and goal progress. Recent researchers have suggested that self-critics are less autonomously motivated, that is, that their goals are less tied to their interests and personal meaning than is true for other individuals, and that the effects of self-criticism on goal progress are mediated ...

Autonomous motivation, controlled motivation, and goal progress.

Although the self-concordance of goals has been repeatedly shown to predict better goal progress, recent research suggests potential problems with aggregating autonomous and controlled motivations to form a summary index of self-concordance (Judge, Bono, Erez, & Locke, 2005). The purpose of the present investigation was to further examine the relations among autonomous motivation, controlled mo...
